Position Title: CDC Preschool Teacher

Reports Directly To: CDC Preschool Director

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Preschool Director, performs all or some of the following duties:
  1. Greets children, parents, and staff in a friendly manner and maintains a good working relationship with parents.
  2. Maintains a positive and constant interaction with children.
  3. Participates in family-style breakfast, lunch and snack with the children daily.
  4. Implements the CDC curriculum.
  5. Plans developmentally appropriate activities for the children in regard to their interests, pace, and style of learning and includes materials and experiences in the classroom that fosters children's development and progress.
  6. Prepares and conducts creative daily experiences for the children based upon the goals of the center.
  7. Assists children in a caring, nurturing manner with activities that are appropriate to their age and development using a variety of creative materials.
  8. Responsible for weekly lesson plans.
  9. Participates in the ongoing assessment of children's development and progress and maintains a progress reporting system under the direction of the center director.
  10. Help children develop good cleaning habits, i.e. picking up after themselves and teaches children personal hygiene appropriate for their age and development.
  11. Attends and participate in staff meeting, training sessions and planning activities.
  12. Completes annual requirement of county-approved training hours for licensing.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

INDEPENDENCE OF ACTION:

The ability to make good rational decisions regarding the safety of children at all times. The ability to work collaboratively with other center staff. The ability to develop a trusting relationship with the families of the children.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

The supervision of young children in their care.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The position will require lifting, stooping, crawling and cleaning in the performance of daily activities. Typical 8 hour shifts with a one hour lunch break ľ Monday through Friday. There may be a possibility of coming in contact with communicable diseases and a possibility of reporting child abuse.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. Applicants with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Early Childhood EducaČtion or a Child Development Associate (CDA) will be considered if there are no applicants with a BS in Early Childhood Education.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be punctual and dependable, has to be motivated and energetic. Individual must complete the North Dakota Self Certification form for Early Childhood Staff/Childcare Providers as a part of the application process and have a TB Skin Test. Applicants must successfully pass a background check.

Preference will be given to bona fide American Indian applicants in accordance with UTTC policies and Federal Indian regulations for such preference.
