Position Title: Activities Coordinator

Reports Directly To:  Strengthening Lifestyles Director

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Strengthening Lifestyles Director, performs all or some of the following duties:
  1. Initiates, coordinates, and supervises Strengthening Lifestyles Activities, and co-sponsored activities, campus wide.
  2. Instructs or coaches groups or individual activities. Demonstrate techniques, observe participants, explain measures necessary to improve their skills.
  3. Recruits volunteers and encourages participant involvement in activities.
  4. Assists S.L. Director by performing administrative functions, i.e. purchase requisitions, transportation requests, activity logs, personnel scheduling, stock office supplies etc.
  5. Works with all staff, faculty, and work study students to provide a Worksite Wellness Program.
  6. Develops and implements new and innovative Fitness Incentive Programs.
  7. Takes a leadership role in committees and groups key to SL activities success: Wellness Circle, Cultural Committee, etc.
  8. Initiates internal and external advertisement, marketing, and promotion of S.L. activities and functions, i.e. e-mail messages, displays, website content, newsletters articles, flyers, etc.
  9. Updates and utilizes a database of all students that attend scheduled activities, Jenzabar-Student Life Module.
  10. Checks all recreation equipment and facilities daily to maintain order and cleanliness and functionality.
  11. Supervises the oversight of areas including Fitness/Sauna/Whirlpool, Cardio room and Healing room.
  12. Reviews and approves/disapproves work-study/LTE timesheets. Primary contact for work-study/LTE Students.
  13. Coordinates SL Department room reservations- scheduling and set-ups for meetings and events in the healing room and multipurpose room.
  14. Enforces safety rules and maintain safety compliance, i.e. whirlpool ph levels, parent/child supervision, etc.
  15. Attends weekly Dept. Meetings and presents department activity summaries/assessment. Attends meetings in absence of S.L. Director.
  16. Team leader for annual inventory survey.
  17. Fulfills daily cleaning duties as assigned.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

The supervision of students and/or work-study/LTE students.

INDEPENDENCE OF ACTION:

Works collaboratively in planning student wellness activities and coordinating campus-wide activity calendar.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The position requires weekend availability and transportation of student to off campus activities. Must be able to climb stairs, lift, and stoop and work at computer station. Walking required throughout UTTC Campus. Will actively participate in activities such as volleyball, basketball, traditional games, and fitness activities.

Employee must display professional behavior and commitment to the Strengthening Lifestyles Department and United Tribes Technical College as outlined in the Strengthening Lifestyles Handbook and UTTC Staff Manual.

Employee found violating policies set forth in the Strengthening Lifestyles Handbook, Staff/Student Handbook may be terminated. Strengthening Lifestyles staff is expected to uphold, enforce and live by campus alcohol/drug policies. Staff members have an obligation to hold each other accountable to the expectations established in this document can expect to be disciplined as employees of Strengthening Lifestyles/UTTC with the potential outcome of termination.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Associates Degree in Wellness, Fitness, Management, or related field. Bachelorís Degree preferred. Two years related experience. CPR/1st Aid Certification, if applicant does not possess certification, must be willing and able to receive one in 60 days of UTTC employment. Applicant must have a valid ND Driverís License. ND CDL, if applicant does not possess license, must be willing and able to receive one in 60 days of UTTC employment; UTTC will pay expenses required to obtain licensure.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Computer skills working with Microsoft programs. Must have knowledge of child development, parenting skills training/education and community resources.

Preference will be given to bona fide American Indian applicants in accordance with UTTC policies and Federal Indian regulations for such preference.
