For the first time, the Capital City is observing a day honoring Indigenous people.
Bismarck is proclaiming "First Nations Day" October 7, 2016. This celebration will be held in conjunction with State of North Dakota proclamation of First Nations Day October 7 at the ND Heritage Center auditorium. This is the result of the City Comission meeting that took place August 9 at United Tribes Technical College where a Bismarck resident and former UTTC student Lorraine Davis, who is now Executive Director of the Native American Development Center and special advisor to Mayor Seminary, suggested that City of Bismarck recognize this day for all Native people in Bismarck. The Board approved and it was passed unanimously.
Hear remarks from Author, Interpretor, and UTTC Instructor Dakota Goodhouse; ND Youth Leadership Academy President, Keanna Harrison. UTTC Honor Guard and the Wise Spirit Singers will provide the posting of flags and flag song. Meal provided by UTTC.
Sponsored by Native American Development Center, City Of Bismarck, ND Indian Affairs, and United Tribes Technical College.
