Climate Change is Topic at UTTC

BISMARCK (UTN) – United Tribes Technical College will host a talk about climate change by Dr. Allan Ashworth on Thursday, February 27 at 3 p.m. in room 231 of the college’s science building.

Ashworth is a distinguished professor and researcher in the Department of Geosciences at NDSU in Fargo. His talk is about climate change as studied through fossils and geology.

The event is hosted by the college’s Tribal Environmental Science Department and is open to student groups free of charge.

Ashworth’s expertise is in paleoecology, stratigraphy and sedimentology. He specializes in insects and their response to climate change. His current projects involve fossils from North and South America and Antarctica.

His research is highlighted in the film “Ice People,” the NOVA documentary “Secrets Beneath the Ice,” and in Science Magazine. His fossil discoveries in Antarctica are featured in articles in National Geographic and are recognized in the New Zealand Geographic Board citation for the Ashworth Glacier.
