EVERYONE INVITED TO THE UNITED TRIBES TECHNICAL COLLEGE ‘THUNDERDOME’
BISMARCK (UTN) – The United Tribes Technical College ‘Thunderbirds’ basketball home opener is set for Thursday, November 9 at the UTTC gymnasium, also known as the ‘Thunderdome.’
The T-Birds host Stone Child College, the tribally-controlled community college of the Chippewa Cree Tribe on the Rocky Boy's Reservation in northcentral Montana.
The women tip-off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men at 7:30.
Season play began November 2 for the T-birds, with away games in Montana. The men returned two-and-one, outlasting Little Big Horn College 96/95, defeating Miles Community College 82/78 and losing to perennial Region 9 powerhouse Gillette College 94/63 at the Miles City Booster Club Classic tournament.
The Thunderbird women got off to a one-and-two start with a 91/81 win over Little Big Horn College and losses to Gillette College (75/60) and Miles Community College (96/62).
The men have a 28 game schedule and women 25, including one dozen MonDak Conference games in January and February. The first game of the cross-town rivalry with Bismarck State is set for January 22 at the Thunder Dome.
UTTC Athletic Director Pete Conway (Blackfeet) begins his third season as Thunderbird Men’s Head Coach. He is assisted by Erik Abbey (Three Affiliated), former assistant and coach with the Thunderbird Women.
Women’s Head Coach Kelsey Peltier is in her second season with the Thunderbirds. She’s an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, assisted by Shaunna Knife (Three Affiliated) who played college basketball at University of Mary.
United Tribes Technical College welcomes fans of all backgrounds to the ‘Thunderdome’ to join us for the 2017-18 season.

Coach/Athletic Director Pete Conway is from the Blackfeet Nation in Montana. Before coming to UTTC, he coached three seasons at Little Big Horn College, Crow Agency, MT, where he amassed the most wins in school history and guided the team to its first ever appearance in the prestigious Region IX Tournament. Coach Kelsey Peltier
Coach Peltier was an assistant at Dunseith, her home town, and part of the University of Mary women’s program. She played in division one at NDSU and led Bottineau to three North Dakota high school state championships. She is a two-time All-State selection and was inducted into the +1000 point club.
