Position Title: Agroecology Extension Educator

Department: Academic Affairs

Reports Directly to: Land Grant Director

Status: Exempt; Full-time

Salary: $45,000 to $58,000

Summary of Duties:

  • Assist the Land Grant Director and Agroecology staff with projects.
  • Serve as point of contact and organizer of Land Grant’s Community Garden program. Assist UTTC community to participate in activities such as gardening, weeding harvesting, washing, and storage.
  • Position and regulate gardens plant irrigation systems. Select and purchase seeds, plant nutrients, and other garden and lawn care equipment. Contribute to the planting and maintenance of saplings, shrubs, flowers, and plants on campus.
  • Oversee semi-annual kitchen inspection and licensing process through the ND Department of Health.
  • Serve as point of contact for scheduling and fee collection for group use of food processing kitchen.
  • Assist UTTC community to participate in food preservation activities such as drying, canning, preserving, freezing.
  • Assist Land Grant staff with events, farmers markets, on-campus produce distribution, etc. Serve on the Healthy Campus Committee.
  • Participate in meetings, conferences, and workshops as needed.
  • Performs all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the college.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Working Conditions:

  • Varies according to the season and program needs
  • Works out of doors in a variety of weather conditions during the planting, growing and harvesting seasons.
  • Schedule will vary depending on project needs.
  • Winter schedule includes extended time in the office and traveling.
  • Expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week.
  • Travel time, overnight travel and special projects may require additional time.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly remain in a stationary position.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, and crouch, or crawl.
  • Operate a computer, tiller, tractor and other equipment related to Land Grant operations.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Regularly ascend/descend stairs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Health, Horticulture, Sustainable Agriculture, Natural Sciences, Permaculture, Youth Development, or related field.
  • ND Driver’s License and insurable.
