Position: Land Grant Director

Status: Exempt; Full-time

Salary: $55,000 - $71,763

Summary Of Duties:

  • Develops strategy and provide leadership for a diverse array of Land Grant department activities including public education, extension outreach and other related programs.
  • Overall daily management of the Land Grant department, working in close collaboration with the Land Grant department personnel, and Vice President of Academic Affairs, on departmental planning, budgeting, administration, and program implementation.
  • Provides staff leadership that supports education, research and extension programs that enhance agriculture and food production.
  • Recruits and retains students in the Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems degree program to enhance program graduates’ economic opportunities and quality of life, improve nutrition and health, and protect natural resources and the environment.
  • Teaches a minimum of 6 credits of college courses per calendar year (fall, spring and summer).
  • Provides oversight of training opportunities provided by Land Grant staff to ensure it includes a cultural context that empowers students by drawing on the strength of their people’s histories, indigenous knowledge, and traditions.
  • Ensures oversight of department grants including all activities, outputs, and outcomes related to department management and administration, including reporting, budget development and monitoring, financial transactions, execution of plans, and program performance.
  • Oversees the selection and training of qualified program staff, assigning clear roles and responsibilities, providing effective supervision, and managing performance to ensure efficient operations.
  • Coordinates monthly reports from Land Grant staff to ensure accountability of all department activities as well as the accurate and timely reporting of deliverables and obligations.
  • Acts as the primary contact person, ensuring UTTC Land Grant is represented in national technical, policy, and planning forums with UTTC and other key stakeholders.
  • Works closely with the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture and other institutes and agencies to ensure compliance with programmatic targets and deliverables.
  • Promotes Land Grant initiatives through advocacy, presentations, and participation in local, regional and national forums.
  • Supports the Land Grant staff by advising on program management, organizational development, in-service training, capacity building, and collaboration among partners and stakeholders.
  • Establishes and manages a team to ensure appropriate, quality services are coordinated and available to the UTTC community.
  • Maintains communication with other 1994 Land Grant Tribal Colleges by attending meetings and maintaining membership with the First American Land-Grant Consortium (FALCON).
  • Serves on college committees.
  • Complies with college policies, plans, and procedures.
  • Performs all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the college.

Working Conditions:

  • Normal working hours are from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm
  • Monday through Friday
  • One hour break for lunch
  • Outdoor working environment year around, particularly during the growing season
  • Evening and weekend work may be required.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly remain in a stationary position
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, and crouch, or crawl
  • Operate equipment related to Land Grant operations (e.g. tiller, tractor)
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Communicate clearly and effectively
  • Regularly ascend/descend stairs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in agriculture, extension, economics, or a related field, from an accredited university required.
  • Two (2) years grant management, program development and personnel supervision experience required.
  • ND Driver’s License and insurable
