Position: Maintenance Plumber

Status: Non-exempt; Full-time

Salary: $23.50 to $30.66

Summary Of Duties:

The Maintenance Plumber performs plumbing work in maintenance repair and installation of gas, water and sewer systems. The Maintenance Plumber’s is responsible to perform quality and efficient work including but not limited to the following:

  • Logs work and task completion;
  • Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job including methods, techniques, materials, tools used in plumbing installation, maintenance and repair work while practicing safe practices and procedures;
  • Assembles, installs, repairs, and troubleshoots, maintains, and performs preventive maintenance on plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, boilers, water heaters, pipes, pipe fittings, pumps, and fixtures for heating, boilers, water, drainage systems, and all other mechanical systems;
  • Diagnoses cause of problems and/or failures in plumbing systems for the purpose of identifying repairs or replacement;
  • Keeps a record of all repairs and preventative maintenance activities as required;
  • Follows the proper UTTC procurement policies and procedures;
  • Requests supplies and materials for the purpose of maintaining inventory and availability of items required;
  • Maintains an inventory of all necessary supplies; Ensures compliance with all accessibility, health and safety codes;
  • Ensures completion of projects in accordance with trade standards as well as local and state Plumbing, HVAC and Electrical codes;
  • Ability to analyze prints, schematics and drawings of plumbing systems for the purpose of determining efficient installation or upgraded systems;
  • Coordinates with assigned supervisor or other tradesmen for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently;
  •  Responds to emergency situations during and after normal working hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns;
  • Test and repair appliances as needed;
  • Has knowledge in plumbing, carpentry and electrical repairs;
  • Assist in general maintenance as needed;
  • Follows the proper procurement policies and procedures;
  • Will work a minimum of eight (8) hours during Powwow weekend as needed; and
  • Perform other tasks or duties as assigned by supervisor;
  • Maintains sanitary and storm water sewer mains throughout campus;
  • Test pipe systems with water and air pressure;

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Working Conditions:

  • Normal Working hours 8am to 5pm
  • Normal Monday through Friday
  • One hour unpaid Lunch
  • One 20 minute paid break
  • Some evenings
  • Some holidays
  • Additional hours maybe required to complete a project or in emergency situations.
  • Subject to working in cold or hot temperatures.
  • Responds to emergency situations during and after normal working hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns;

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.;
  • Must be able to climb a ladder and work at heights of 20 ft. or higher;
  • Must be able to stand or bend for hours at a time; and
  • Must be competent with hand and power tools.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a high school Diploma or equivalent;
  • Must have a valid ND Driver’s License, clear driving record of three (3) years, and be insurable under UTTC’s insurance carrier.
  • Minimum of a recognized apprenticeship with three (3) years’ experience;
