STUDENT SUCCESS

OUR COMMITTMENT TO STUDENTS AND FAMILIES

We are committed to the success of our students.

TJES adheres to all North Dakota Education Content Standards. The standards for all content areas and grades can be found here.

Parent and family engagement is also a critical part of the success of our students. We encourage parents to become familiar with our school standards, practices, and operations. Also consider getting involved with school activities or volunteering.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

TJES offers many after-school activities that support student learning and development, including tutoring, homework help, hands-on math and science and technology programs, sports, and cultural activities.

AFTER-SCHOOL DISMISSAL PROCEDURES:

  • If your child lives on campus, they may walk home.
  • If you coordinate with the office or classroom teacher to pick your child up from school, students will wait in the main building at TJES. A staff member must see the student leave with the parent or family member.
  • Busing is provided to after school students.

TO PARTICIPATE IN AN AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITY, STUDENTS MUST:

  • Be in school all day (not tardy, no early pick-up)
  • Have no behavioral referrals to the office
  • Have a signed permission form

FAMILY NIGHT

Family Night is a monthly event for parents and their children to share in fun academic activities, games, and crafts and share a meal.

Families must sign up each month to participate in activities. Sign-ups will be sent home with each student prior to the event. Participation is limited to the first 25 families, sign up early!

THE FAMILY AND CHILD
EDUCATION PROGRAM (FACE)

The Family and Child Education (FACE) Program is an early literacy program that promotes school readiness in three settings: home, school, and community. It is open to all enrolled Native American families living in the Bismarck/Mandan communities.

FACE HOME-BASED SERVICES

Parent educators provide home-based services to support parents in their role as their child’s first and most influential teacher and to support children by learning through play. Families with children from prenatal to age 3 can join and earn incentives for participating.

Home-based offices are in UTTC Campus building 75.

Please contact parent educators Jenna Delorme at 701-221-1832 or Monique Gladue at 701-221-1829 for more information about home-based services.

FACE FAMILY CIRCLE

Parent educators also facilitate Monthly FACE Family Circle events, which provide home-based families the opportunity to share ideas and learn about evidence-based perspectives in child development. These events encourage families to share their culture and traditions to enrich learning experiences for all. Each monthly gathering promises something new and exciting from guest speakers, door prizes, and more!

FACE CENTER-BASED SERVICES

The FACE Center is your partner in preparing your child for kindergarten and life-long learning. We offer a preschool classroom setting in which a teacher scaffolds learning through child exploration and semi-structured instruction. Parent and Child Time (PACT) – held Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. – allows parents and their child to engage in play inside of a rich learning environment for one hour per day. We also enroll all children in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which provides a free book monthly. Children must be 3 years old, and potty trained to enroll in FACE Center-Based services.

The FACE center-based services are held on the UTTC campus in building 99 A/B.

ADULT EDUCATION CLASSROOM

The FACE Center also offers an Adult Education Classroom, designed to meet your learning needs and support your goals. Participation and involvement in your child’s classroom is a requirement to use the Adult Education services.

Please call 701-221-1835 for more information about preschool services and Cyndee McLeod at 701-221-1830 about our Adult Education programming.
