Testimonials
The impact of United Tribes Technical College is best told through the voices of the students, alumni, faculty, and community members who experience it every day. Their stories reflect the dedication, resilience, and sense of belonging that define UTTC.
These testimonials highlight how education, support, and community come together on campus—showing the real difference UTTC makes in the lives of those it serves and the generations they represent.
My experience at United Tribes has been great. I wouldn’t have wanted to go anywhere else as it feels like home here. I am nervous to move on, but I think UTTC has successfully prepared me for the next level of education and basketball. I’d have to say the instructors here are awesome. They actually care about student success in and out of the classroom. They are constantly looking for more opportunities that will benefit the students. I feel that was another huge part in my success here. That said, UTTC will always be a first recommendation if kids ask where they should go to college. The atmosphere here is like being at home.

Butch Thunder Hawk’s connection to United Tribes Technical College began in 1973. In 1975, he became UTTC’s first Tribal Arts Instructor, helping lay the foundation for a program that continues to preserve culture and educate generations of students. His nearly 50 years of service, lasting until his retirement in 2023, reflect a lifelong commitment to UTTC and its mission.
“Having witnessed UTTC’s growth over decades — from the campus’s original small gym to today’s facilities — I understand how critical shared spaces are to student life and community connection. I believe a new gymnasium represents an opportunity to expand UTTC’s athletic programs, promote health and wellness for students and staff, and strengthen relationships with the Bismarck–Mandan community through campus-hosted events.” – Butch Thunder Hawk
Butch is a dedicated Thunderbird fan and deeply connected to the Tribal Arts Program. His story reminds us that investing in UTTC is about more than buildings — it’s about honoring legacy, strengthening community, and creating opportunities for future generations.

“I was blessed enough to break a generational cycle and work to receive my Associate of Arts in Social and Human Services degree with UTTC. It still feels surreal; since then, I have gone on to further my education through Minot State University, and will be receiving my bachelor’s degree (Spring of 2025). If it wasn’t for the support of my advisor/instructor, Tiffany Pickney, and this program through United Tribes Technical College, I don’t know where I would be currently. It opened so many opportunities for myself, and made me realize just how much I can accomplish with my education.”
