Career Services

Career Services strives to empower students and alumni by providing career exploration, educational guidance, and professional development opportunities that support lifelong success.

Career Platform

UTTC Career Services utilizes Handshake as our career platform to connect our students with employers worldwide.

Students

Career Test

Take the FOCUS 2 Assessment to explore what careers match your interests, values, personality and current skillset. FOCUS 2 is a self-guided career, major and education planning system designed to guide you through the steps of the career planning process. You can use FOCUS 2 at any stage of your education and career planning according to your personal needs. Start with any feature, repeat a feature if desired and use the system as an ongoing resource. All your results are saved and accessible in your FOCUS 2 Portfolio.

New users simply click on the REGISTER button to be brought to your self-registration page. To complete the form, new users will be required to enter an ACCESS CODE.

The ACCESS CODE is Thunderbirds

https://www.focus2career.com/Portal/Login.cfm?SID=895

Want to talk more about your results or career exploration? Schedule an appointment with Career Services on Handshake, https://app.joinhandshake.com/stu/appointments.

Career Exploration

Career Exploration is done by providing students opportunities to connect with employers via career fairs and Employer Connections. Students are notified of these opportunities through email and flyers posted around campus.

Resumes

Career Services holds two resume writing presentations each semester. One on resume basics for our first and second year students and another on resume tailoring for our third and fourth year students who will be entering the job market soon. Students are provided with resume templates based on their perspective backgrounds and career aspirations. Resume templates and examples can be found on Handshake or accessed here.

  • Only Classroom Experience Template Resume
  • Skills Based Template Resume
  • Work Experience Template Resume

Students are encouraged to attend the resume presentations but can also schedule one-on-one help with Career Services to get assistance in writing their resume.

Job Search

While Career Services provides on campus job search opportunities, students are encouraged to explore online job search platforms and attend off campus job search opportunities on their own. Below are popular, easy to use platforms. However, if you have issues with the online job search, a “Navigating Job Search Platforms” Lunch and Learn is held each semester. Watch your student email for the flyer.

Career Prep

Career Services holds multiple events throughout the year focused on career preparation from skill identification to interview skills and everything in between. Students will need to watch their email for event flyers and check the events calendar on myUTTC.

Graduation

Prior to graduation, students will need to meet with Career Services for a Graduate Exit Interview to discuss their plans after graduation. This meeting will take between 5-15 minutes depending on what is discussed and can be done in-person or virtual. Students who are anticipated to graduate will be contacted by the Student Activities and Retention Coordinator with instructions on how to set up their Graduate Exit Interview.

Graduates will be emailed six months after graduation and asked to complete the First Destination Survey.

Employers

Career Fairs

UTTC holds a Career Fair in Fall and Spring semesters of each year.  This event is FREE to employers and open to all students, staff, alumni, and the public.  Our fairs are set in a casual atmosphere with games, prizes, and food.

Our Annual Career Fairs are held from 3pm-5pm in the James Henry Gymnasium on UTTC campus.

Along with our on-campus fairs, UTTC also partners with Bismarck Job Service and Bismarck State College to hold the Capital Career Fair in the first half of the spring semester.

Employer Connections

Employer Connections are employer’s opportunity to connect with small groups of United Tribes Technical College students in a classroom style setting over lunch hour. Employers give a 30-minute presentation about their company, types of positions they offer, and the benefits of being an employee. In person and virtual options are available.

Get on Board Campaign

Our Get on Board Campaign was established to give students a visual representation of our Employer Partners outside of emails and our online career platform. Employer flyers are posted to a physical job board in the Enrollment Services lobby with links to their company’s career opportunities website.

Employers can “Get on Board” by emailing the following to careers@uttc.edu:

  • Company logo
  • Short company description
  • Link to the company careers site

Sharing Career Opportunities

If you have a specific opportunity you feel would benefit our students, please send a PDF job description or position flyer to careers@uttc.edu. Our Career Services personnel will send the opportunity out to students who may qualify.
