Student Identity Verification Policy
Ensuring Student Identity Verification
United Tribes Technical College (UTTC) has a set of procedures in place to ensure students who have been accepted and registered for the set academic term participate and complete course requirements regardless of holding a part-time or full-time student status and are taking face-to-face and/or traditional online classes.
UTTC verifies identity of a student who engages in class and course-associated activities within their registered courses by using a secure login and password. To provide reasonable protocols to protect student privacy the student must first sign into the Jenzabar learning management system, www.my.uttc.edu, using a secure login and password credentials. The secure log-in consists of the student’s ID number, assigned upon college admission, and a password issued explicitly to the student through the College’s Information Technology Department. The student has the option to change their password to a privately selected one to be used for all future logins into www.my.uttc.edu. Students can change their password at any time and are encouraged to do so intermittently. The student is allowed access to their courses only after the registration process is complete for the designated semester in which they are enrolled.
In the secure environment of the learning management system, faculty post course resources, material, assignments, exams, and discussion forums. Students are then expected to utilize and engage in course-related assignments and tasks to meet course and program objectives. The privacy of individual student’s attendance, assignments, and grades are maintained within the eLearning system.
Proctored examinations may be required for some traditional online courses. If required, the proctor must be deemed qualified and approved by the Dean of Instruction via a student submitted Proctor Application form. The approved proctor must verify the identity of the student taking the exam using the Student-Proctor Verification Form. See appendices A & B.
Protection of Student Privacy
The privacy of students who enroll in courses at United Tribes Technical College is protected under the College’s policies regarding student privacy, fraud, FERPA rules, and HIPPA regulations. These policies are published in the electronic versions of the Student Handbook and the Academic Catalog placed on https://uttc.edu
All students are required to sign a technology User Agreement indicating that the individual is taking responsibility for all use and confidentiality of passwords associated with UTTC accounts limited to the individual whose name appears on the account. All my.uttc.edu portal patrons are responsible for maintaining the security of their username and password. Access credentials are not to be shared or given to anyone other than the individual to whom the credentials were assigned. Users are responsible for all activity associated with their my.uttc.edu account and are held responsible for the knowledge of information contained within the most recent Student Handbook and Academic Catalog. Failure to read the guidelines and policies do not relieve students from accountability.
Students are responsible for providing authentic and thorough information in any identity verification process, in adherence and compliance with UTTC’s Student Code of Conduct as outlined within the current Student Handbook.
Course Platform Used
United Tribes Technical College utilizes the learning management system (LMS) eLearning portal supported by Jenzabar. The Jenzabar LMS uses a secure single sign-on process that, in addition to the eLearning portal, hosts student accounts, financial aid, registration, and campus life portlets.
Procedure for Obtaining User ID, Creating Password, and Resets
The UTTC IT Department works closely with the Admissions Department. The Admission’s Office generates and designates a permanent student ID number to identify the student for all internal processes and access to the College’s internet-related services. The Admission’s Office provides the IT Department with the student name and associated ID number. The IT Department adds the students to the Student Active Directory with a username and randomly generated password. Once this process is completed the student’s college email is generated using the same process.
Students who have forgotten their password can request password reset by entering the student ID associated with their account. A unique link is sent to that registered email address with instructions to reset the password. Students also have the option to work directly with IT Department personnel to reset their password.
Charges Associated with Student Identity Verification
United Tribes Technical College does not charge a fee for student identity verification. Students would be notified of additional fees, if any, prior to and during the registration process through various communication means that includes but is not limited to the Academic Catalog and the College’s website.
