UTTC College Works Program

United Tribes Technical College students have the opportunity to work on campus through Federal Work Study (FWS) or the Leadership-through-Experience (LTE) programs to assist with paying costs while pursuing their educational goals.

An application for student employment must be submitted with necessary documents to the Financial Aid College Works Coordinator to be considered for a position. Positions are limited so it is encouraged to apply early.

Federal Work Study (FWS) Program

The Federal Work Study Program (also known as FWS or Work Study) is a federally funded program established to assist students with financial need to gain experience in their field of study as well as cover the cost of educational expenses while pursuing a degree.

Federal Work-Study funds are granted to institutions to provide part-time work opportunities for enrolled students. Eligible students receive at least the federal minimum wage while employed under the FWS program.

The Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) PART 2519 – Higher Education Innovative Programs for Community Service, Subpart A – Purpose and Eligibility to Apply, 2510.120: What is Federal Work-Study Requirements: To be eligible for assistance under this part, an institution of higher education must demonstrate that it meets the minimum requirements under Section 443(b)(2)(A) of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (42 U.S.C. 2753(b)(2)(A), relating to the participation of students employed under part C of title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (42 U.S.C. 2751 of seq.: (relating to Federal-Work Study Programs) in community service activities, or has received a waiver of those requirements from the Secretary of Education.

Leadership-through-Experience (LTE) Program

The Leadership through Experience (LTE) Program is a campus-based program available to enrolled members of Federally-Recognized tribes designed to promote leadership and skill development while assisting with financial need to cover their educational costs. The LTE Program gives students the opportunity to enhance their educational experience through hands-on learning in their field of study and teaches them responsibility in a work-place. Students are eligible to work through LTE as long as he/she has an unmet need. Students applying for the LTE program must provide a Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB) or Tribal ID.

Eligibility Requirements for FWS/LTE:

  • Must be an enrolled member of a Federally-Recognized Tribe
  • Must be enrolled at least half-time (6 Credits or more) with priority given to full-time students (12 Credits or more)
  • Must maintain a 2.0 GPA
  • Must complete a student employment packet
  • Must participate in the LTE Program Evaluation
