Position Title: Student Activities and Retention Coordinator - Closes November 7, 2024 at 5:00 pm

Reports Directly to: Dean of Enrollment

Status: Exempt; Full-time

Salary: $50,000

Summary of Duties:

  • Coordinates planning for student events such as Welcome Week for the Fall and Spring semesters for all new, transfer, and returning students.
  • Coordinates all high school tours on campus and student visits for potential students and their families.
  • Serves as co-advisor for the Student Government Association and Apprenticeship Coordinator.
  • Chairs the Graduation Committee with rotating groups of Academic Affairs faculty and staff.
  • Develops academic success plans for students on academic probation to positively impact persistence and retention.
  •  Develops and implements an annual retention plan with actionable retention measures.
  • Monitors and tracks student retention measures and other success benchmarks as needed.
  • Demonstrates a high level of knowledge of degree plans and course sequences for academic advising and degree completion purposes.
  • Advises first year students individually, during the summer months to provide degree planning and course selection.
  •  Serves as a relational academic advisor for first year students in designated degree/certificate programs, ensuring students are informed about degree plan requirements, academic policies/procedures such as course add/drops, withdrawal from the college, attendance policy, registration information, and the right to appeal.
  • Assists first year students with the completion of the recommended academic progress (RAP) form with the courses and number of credits identified for each semester through degree/certificate completion, as well as strategies/supports necessary for students to reach their goals.
  • Refers students to the appropriate faculty advisors for their program to register for courses identified on their degree plan.
  • Presents topics important student success in First Year Experience and Healthy Living classes.
  • Oversees the Center for Achievement, Retention and Engagement (CARE Center) services (tutoring) and serves as a resource for students.
  • Serves as an active listener for students and resource for information about on-campus resources.
  • Collaborates with Career Services on goal setting and career planning advising sessions that connect student with potential degree plans.
  • Serves on committees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: none

Working Conditions:

  • Normal working hours are from 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, one hour of unpaid lunch break.

Physical Demands: 

  • Regularly be able to remain in a stationary position.
  • Occasionally move about inside an office and classroom.
  • Operate a computer and other office/classroom equipment.
  •  Occasionally move, transport, or position up to 10 pounds.
  •  Communicate clearly and effectively.
  • May need to ascend/descend stairs

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Social work, Education or related field, from a regionally accredited institution required, master’s degree preferred.
  • Two (2) years of employment history in a higher education institution required, preferably in a tribal college environment.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Must have excellent communication (written and oral) skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work independently and as a team.
  • Sensitive to the cultures of students enrolled in college, willing to learn about those cultures and integrate multi-cultural perspectives where appropriate.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
