Status: Exempt; Full-time

Salary: $51,569.00

Summary of Duties:

  • Responsible for instruction of excep­tional education students.
  • Maintain open lines of commu­nication with parents and classroom instructors as to the instructional methods that meets the students’ needs.
  • Follow up on referrals from parents, classroom instructors, and other persons’ making referral.
  • Will observe student(s) in classroom, write student report(s) on progress and behavior.
  • Review all pertinent information that is student related.
  • Responsible for the academic and diagnostic assessment of all students that are referred, also write up the assessment that will be presented to other evaluating consultants.
  • In preparation of the Individual Education Plan (IEP), the teacher will work with parents, classroom instructor, principal, and other instructional support staff for the appropriate placement of the student(s).
  • Maintains a close working relationship with the classroom instructor(s) and principal.
  • Follows the established records filing system.
  • Maintain report(s) all findings of student evaluation.
  • Monitor all student placement and annual review timelines.
  • Set up schedule(s) for instructional time.
  • Frequently makes decisions of average difficulty regarding classroom procedures, discipline, promotion or retention of students, field trips and school policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Attending training/professional development sessions relevant to the position.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Working Conditions:

  • Normal working hours are from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • General classroom conditions. May work additional hours for various activities for children

Physical Demands: 

  • Requires walking, running, lifting, stooping, pushing, and jumping in the performance of duties

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Elementary Education
  • Special Education Certification and/or proof of successful completion of one or more special education Praxis tests
  • Must meet state certification qualifications.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Must be punctual and dependable, must be motivated and energetic.
  • The ability to always make good rational decisions regarding the safety of children.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with TJES staff.
  • The ability to develop a trusting relationship with the families of the children.
