Position Title: Part-time Elementary Bus Driver - Close March 21, 2025 at 5:00 PM

Department: Theodore Jamerson Elementary School

Reports Directly to: O&M Coordinator

Status: Non-exempt; Part-time Temporary

Salary: $19.25 (CDL) - $24.51 (CDL with all Endorsements)

Summary of Duties:

  • Safely transport students to and from school, following designated routes and schedules.
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections of the bus to ensure it is in proper operating condition.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly bus, ensuring that it is free of debris and hazards.
  • Follow all traffic laws and rules of the road, including speed limits and stop signs.
  • Communicate effectively with students and school administrators, addressing issues and concerns as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of pick-up and drop-off times, student behavior, and any incidents that occur during travel, as required for state & BIE standards.
  • Monitor and enforce passenger safety rules, ensuring that students remain seated and keep their belongings in designated areas.
  • Establish and maintain a positive and respectful relationship with students and parents, promoting a safe and welcoming environment on the bus.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to improve skills and maintain certifications.
  • Respond calmly and professionally to emergencies and accidents, taking prompt and appropriate action to ensure the safety of students and others.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Not Applicable

Working Conditions:

  • Shifts may be early morning, late morning, evening, night shifts, and rotating
  • Additional hours, weekends, and holidays may be required.
  • A minimum 30-minute paid meal period is provided in shifts exceeding five Hours.

Physical Demands: 

  • Must be able to sit and stand for long periods.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder.
  • Must be able to bend over, stoop, reach,
  • And must be able to lift up to 50 in the performance of duties.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Must have two (2) years related Experience.
  • Must have a valid Class B North Dakota Driver’s License with passenger, air brake and school bus endorsements or be willing to work towards getting endorsements.
  • A copy of your Driver’s License needs to be submitted with application.
  • Must have an acceptable motor vehicle driving record. Verification for MVR or abstract of driving record must be submitted with application.
  • Applicants will need to successfully pass a background check.
