Campus Community
Cultural wellness is an integral part of our tribal college campus community. It can be seen in Health Promotions’ activities, campus events, the Interpretive Trail, smudging rituals, and educational activities for UTTC college students, staff, and children at the Theodore Jamerson Elementary School.
Therapeutic Support Services
Our Cultural Wellness Specialist, Robert Fox, works closely with the college’s Wellness counselors to offer therapeutic support for students who seek counseling and therapeutic support services, including Chemical Health services and Domestic Violence Advocacy.
Veterans’ Support
Beginning in 2022, Cultural Wellness programming will include opportunities and activities for UTTC veterans, both students and staff, to gather for fellowship and support. Our UTTC Color Guard plays a significant role in many of the campus’ events and activities.
UTTC International Powwow
Each year during the second weekend in September, the UTTC International Powwow brings thousands of participants from across the United States and Canada to the tribal college’s campus and Lone Star Arena. This is a contest powwow, where dancers and singers compete for prize awards judged on a dancer’s performance (knowledge and skill of their category), keeping time with the drum, and the dancer’s regalia. The UTTC International Powwow is one of the last large outdoor events on the northern Great Plains powwow circuit. For that reason, this annual event is known as Home of the Champions.
