Position Title: Farm Operations and Research Coordinator-Closes May 1 2025, at 5:00 PM

Salary: $50,000

Summary of Duties:

  • Manage daily operations of greenhouse, high-tunnels, and gardens on campus.  Duties include working with irrigation, heat/cooling, soil preparation, harvest, washing and packing, weeding, and insect and disease control.
  • Daily cleaning of greenhouse, outside areas, and high-tunnels and semiannual deep greenhouse cleaning.
  • Manage year-round operation of hydroponic units in greenhouse for continuous food production.
  • Coordinate the use of the greenhouse and other production areas with other departments on campus and partnering organizations.
  • Coordinate and support the use of the greenhouse for research projects, activities, and demonstrations.
  • Address and resolve any problems and challenges or conflicts that arise within the greenhouse, high tunnels, and gardens on campus
  • Schedule guest speakers for learning opportunities related to food sovereignty for UTTC students and community members, including identifying speakers, collecting the ingredients, setting set up the space, and collaborating with College Relations for promotional purposes.
  • Provide hands-on demonstrations on campus for UTTC students and community members on topics related to food sovereignty, such as foraging, hunting, gardening, preparation preservation and storage of traditional foods, plants used for food, medicine, materials, and other customary uses.
  • Assist Land Grant Director in data collection, managing systems of evaluation, and inputting applicable data into areas of success and improvement.
  • Develop and maintain food sovereignty network and partners with Tribal Nations throughout the Great Plains region, growing relationships that are mutually beneficial with other like-minded food systems organizations.
  • Participate in college-sponsored and department meetings, and any others on campus activities as appropriate.
  • Performs all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the college.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Working Conditions:

  • Normal working hours are from 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday. One-hour unpaid lunch break.
  • Monthly travel in-state and out-of-state will be required.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly be able to actively work inside of greenhouse, high tunnels, fields and gardens.
  • Frequently move about inside a greenhouse, office, classroom, and kitchen lab.
  • Operate a computer and other office/classroom equipment.
  • Frequently move, transport, or position up to 40 pounds.
  • Will need to ascend/descend stairs.
  • Will need to operate small ATVs, farming equipment, irrigation equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, business, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in the agriculture field growing plants, seedings, harvesting, weeding and irrigation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of American Indians, cultures, and histories.
  • Ability to foster and maintain strong relationships, with a balance of assertiveness and diplomacy.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
