Summary of Duties:

  • Deliver engaging and comprehensive undergraduate fisheries biology courses (Introduction to Fisheries Biology, Aquatic Ecology, Fisheries Management) following approved curricula.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise laboratory sessions, providing clear instructions for a safe and interactive learning environment.
  • Incorporate diverse teaching methods, including multimedia presentations and interactive activities, to cater to different learning styles and enhance student comprehension.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, ensuring alignment with state and industry standards while integrating culturally responsive content.
  • Encourage and involve students in research initiatives, fostering a collaborative environment supporting active participation and contributions to ongoing projects.
  • Maintain a successful research program supported by external funding, actively engaging in grant writing and management to sustain research endeavors.
  • Exhibit excellent written and oral communication skills, effectively conveying complex scientific concepts to students with diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Embrace a commitment to inclusion and diversity in research, teaching, and service projects, creating a culturally sensitive and supportive learning environment.
  • Actively participate in outreach events, engaging with the community to promote the field of Wildlife and Fisheries and contribute to the institution’s visibility.
  • Oversee the maintenance of field equipment, ensuring proper functionality and safety.
  • Regularly monitor and report student attendance and academic progress.
  • Contribute to departmental assessment efforts at the course, program, and institutional learning outcome levels.
  • Maintain a minimum of ten (10) office hours per week, scheduling at times convenient for students, providing academic advising or professional tutoring during those hours.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on research projects, publications, or other scholarly activities in the field of biology.
  • Actively engage in professional development activities, staying informed about advancements in the field, and attend faculty meetings to contribute to the overall development and improvement of the institution.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Working Conditions:

  • All faculty are required to be on campus to meet their professional obligations as stated in the Summary of Duties identified on this job description, in addition to scheduled college activities during normal hours of operation.
  • Each faculty member shall submit their schedule to their direct supervisor at the start of each semester showing posted office hours, class schedule, committee meetings, faculty meetings, student club meetings and typical availability.
  • Ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly be able to remain in a stationary position.
  • Occasionally move about inside an office and classroom
  • Operate a computer and other office/classroom equipment.
  • Occasionally move, transport, or position up to 10 pounds.
  • May need to ascend/descend stairs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Fisheries Biology or other closely related field required, PhD preferred, or a master’s degree witha minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Limnology, Fisheries Biology, or Aquatic Ecology.
  • Two (2) years successful college instruction in the field of Fisheries Biology preferred.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the college.
  • Knowledge of American Indian Tribes, cultures, and histories desirable.
  • Willingness to write and manage grants to support research endeavors.
  • Experience mentoring and conducting research with undergraduate students.
  • Experience designing, developing, and facilitating online higher education courses.
  • Ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
