Position Title: (TJES) Special Education Paraprofessional -Closes May 28, 2025 at 5:00 PM

Department: Theodore Jamerson Elementary School

Reports Directly to: TJES Special Education Coordinator

Status: Non-exempt; Full-time

Salary: $18.00 per hour

Summary of Duties:

  • Carry out instructional routines with student(s) in various school settings.
  • Provide services to students under the direction of special education staff per students’ individualized education plans.
  • Collaborate with teachers to teach, reinforce, and track student behaviors.
  • Utilize appropriate instructional materials and strategies to support students’ academic social emotional, and behavioral needs.
  • Maintains records for reporting student progress.
  • Able to frequently make moderately simple decisions related to student management and instruction, demonstrating flexibility in meeting the needs of student(s).
  • Supervising children in various school settings (cafeteria, playground, etc.)
  • Punctual and reliable in reporting for work.
  • Assist the classroom teacher in a variety of ways:
    • Classroom organization
    • Preparing for learners
    • Lesson planning pertaining to individual needs.
    • Routines before and after school.
  • Enjoys children; effective in helping them manage their emotions when help is needed.
  • Participates in TJES activities such as professional development, committees, school accreditation, and staff meetings.
  • Participates in personal growth and development opportunities provided by TJES.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Working Conditions:

  • Workday is from 8:00AM to 4:00PM.
  • Some opportunities for additional hours based on after school events for TJES students and parents.

Physical Demands: 

  • Walking between numerous buildings/classes is required during all seasons.
  • Ability to address all physical demands of working with young children (standing, sitting, squatting, kneeling, lifting, etc.)

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma
  • School Paraprofessional certification
  • Must meet state certification qualifications

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Working with children in an educational setting
  • understanding of disabilities as they pertain to education.
