Reports Directly to: TJES Principal

Status: Exempt; Full-time

Salary: $47,536.00

Summary of Duties:

• Meets assigned classes at the time as indicated by the supervisor and provides instruction in the required subjects or in his/her area of specialty.
• Establishes and maintains a classroom atmosphere which will facilitate effective learning, supervising students as assigned as needed.
• Guides the learning of the student toward the achievement of individual goals which have been set, where applicable, by the teacher, student, and parent.
• Prepares for the classes assigned and shows written evidence upon request of the supervisor.
• Provides a safe learning environment for the students in the classroom.
• Incorporates Native American culture into the instruction in subject areas where appropriate.
• Evaluates the progress of students on a regulars basis and provides progress reports as required or requested.
• Communicates reports of student progress to the student and their parents at the end of each grading period and at other times if requested.
• Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by school policy, the administration, and the Indian Education Act of 1978.
• Plans and supervises meaningful tasks for teacher aides and/or volunteers designed to facilitate student learning.
• Contributes to the development and continual improvement of school programs by sharing expertise on committees as requested during released time if possible, attending, and participating in faculty meetings.
• Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced courses at institutions of higher learning.
• Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
• Accompanies students to and from instructional settings and other activities, such as to and from the cafeteria where they will assist students as they proceed through food line, assist them in seating location, and waste disposal.
• Make decisions of average difficulty regarding classroom procedures, discipline, promotion or retention of students, field trips and school policies.
• Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Working Conditions:

• Normal working hours are from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm. Employees are required to supervise their students as they transition from various areas within TJES. This includes a working lunch, which will be provided at no cost.

Physical Demands:

• Will need to be able to bend, stoop and lift.
• Will need to walk outside during adverse weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.
  • Current North Dakota Teaching Certificate.

• Must be punctual and dependable, must be motivated and energetic.
• The ability to always make good rational decisions regarding the safety of children.
• The ability to work collaboratively with TJES staff.
• The ability to develop a trusting relationship with the families of the children.
