Position Title: Laboratory Equipment Technician-close March 14, 2025, at 5:00 pm
Department: Intertribal Research & Resource Center (IRRC)
Reports Directly to: IRRC Center Director
Status: Non-exempt; Full-time
Salary: $21.65-DOQ
Summary of Duties:
- Conducts routine maintenance and calibration of STEM analytical laboratory equipment within UTTC’s Research DEN (Dakota Equipment Nexus).
- Assists in developing Standard Operating Procedures for each piece of equipment.
- Consults with and trains internal and external clients on the use of DEN laboratory equipment. Coordinates with faculty and staff to facilitate collaborative research projects.
- Obtains and maintains current training and professional development on each piece of equipment.
- Oversees ordering and inventory for the equipment hubs. Exceeds laboratories safety and hygiene principles.
- Works closely with DEN Coordinator and supervisor.
- Processes samples with students and faculty as needed to ensure timely completion.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Ensures users of laboratory equipment are safe and efficient
Working Conditions:
- Normal working hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
- Standard office and chemical, bioscience, and engineering laboratory settings
Physical Demands:
- Regularly be able to remain in a stationary position.
- Occasionally move about inside an office, classroom, or lab.
- Operate a computer and other office/classroom/lab equipment.
- Occasionally move, transport, or position up to 40 pounds.
- May need to ascend/descend stairs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree in relevant STEM field.
- At least 1 year of specialized experience in a laboratory setting.
- Ability to troubleshoot and adapt to challenges and varying schedules.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with standard laboratory techniques and practices.
- Must bring a customer service mindset to the position.
- ND Driver License and Insurable.
Knowledge & Skills:
Must be self-motivated to work efficiently with minimal direct supervision and eager to promote research in the region.
General understanding of laboratory equipment and safety procedures.
Must be detail oriented and keep detailed and accurate notes.
Must display strong teamwork, communication, and effective writing skills.
Excellent interpersonal, team building, and decision-making skills.
