Salary: $25.50

Summary of Duties:

The Maintenance HVAC Specialist is responsible for conducting routine inspections of HVAC and mechanical systems. Surveys facilities and buildings to identify HVAC maintenance needs. The Maintenance HVAC Specialist duties include but not limited to the following:

  • Logs work and task completion.
  • Assembles, installs, repairs, troubleshoots, maintains, and performs preventative maintenance on heating and cooling systems, boilers, furnaces, air conditioning units and all other mechanical systems.
  • Diagnoses cause of problems and/or failures in HVAC systems for the purpose of identifying repairs or replacement.
  • Keeps a record of all repairs and preventative maintenance activities as required.
  • Follows the proper UTTC procurement policies and procedures.
  • Requests supplies and materials for the purpose of maintaining inventory and availability of items required.
  • Maintains an inventory of all necessary supplies; Ensures compliance with all accessibility, health and safety codes.
  • Ensures completion of projects in accordance with trade standards as well as local and state Plumbing, HVAC, and Electrical codes.
  • Ability to analyze prints, schematics, and drawings of HVAC systems for the purpose of determining efficient installation or upgraded systems.
  • Coordinates with assigned supervisor or other Staff for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.
  • Responds to emergency situations during and after normal working hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Test and repair appliances as needed.
  • Assist in general maintenance as needed.
  • Follows the proper procurement policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, which includes a minimum of 8 hours for Special Events.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Working Conditions:

  • Position requires working days, evenings, some weekends, and holidays.
  • Additional hours may be required to complete projects or in emergency situations.
  • Subject to working in hot or cold temperatures.

Physical Demands: 

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder and work at heights of 20 ft. or higher.
  • Must be able to stand or bend for hours at a time.
  • Must be competent with all hand and power tools required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum five (5) years of work experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clear driving record of three (3) years.
  • Must be knowledgeable in computer programming of HVAC.
  • EPA certified for refrigerant preferred or willing to become certified.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job including methods, techniques, materials, tools used in HVAC installation, maintenance and repair work while practicing safe practices and procedures.
  • Has knowledge in plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs.
