Summary of Duties:
United Tribes Technical College prioritizes the cultural well-being of our students through a variety of programs and services on campus, including the work of our Cultural Wellness Coordinator. This individual will:
• Serve as the primary resource for cultural programs on campus, maintaining a calendar of events for all cultural programs happening both within and outside of the Health & Wellness Department, in addition to organizing events on campus each school year. Position will design, schedule, and implement weekly cultural wellness activities in the Wellness Center and outdoors on campus for UTTC students and students with families.
• Assist Health Promotions staff with planning and conducting cultural wellness and health activities for the First Year Experience & Health Living classes.
• Provide cultural guidance to students seeking to learn more about Indigenous resources for holistic wellness.
• Work cooperatively with Residence Hall staff to coordinate monthly educational residence hall and campus- wide activities relating to cultural wellness.
• Collaborate with Theodore Jamerson Elementary School (TJES) students and teachers on two classroom cultural activities per month during the school year. Plan and lead activities following educational guidelines as established by the teachers. This includes working with the TJES Physical Education teacher to plan and implement two cultural wellness physical recreational activities each month for the students.
• Maintain the grounds of the sweat lodge and the sweat lodge itself (cut wood, get rocks, build lodge, etc.) Set up and monitor sweat lodge ceremonies that will be happening on campus.
• Coordinate with the Facilities department to set up tipis and other cultural-related needs of the campus.
• Collaborate with the College Relations staff on photos of the cultural wellness activities for posting on social media (minimum of four times each month).
• Assist the Intertribal Research and Resource Center Outreach Coordinator with integrating cultural knowledge into scheduled activities as needed.
• Assist the Land Grant Agroecology Extension Educator beginning the first week of May through mid-August in the maintenance of flowerbeds and gardens on the UTTC campus, including soil preparation, planting, tilling, watering, harvesting and storage of equipment and tools.
• Develop activities to teach Indigenous cultural practices in cooking and/or agriculture to UTTC students.
• Serve as a resource for UTTC faculty in the inclusion of culturally responsive content in their courses.
• Collaborate with wellness counselors to increase culturally responsive practices into the counselor/client relationship.
• Provide support and programming for Akicita (Veterans) who are a part of the UTTC Campus Community.
• Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: • Potential to supervise part-time employees or student employee positions.
Working Conditions:
• Position will require working evenings, weekends, and out-of-town travel. Will need to be able to bend, stoop, walk, and run as part of daily functions.
Physical Demands:
• Must be able to go up and down stairs.
• Must be able to flit 100 lbs.
• Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Wellness or education related field required, or significant experience with work related to Indigenous culture.
• Must have a working knowledge of approaches to wellness based in Indigenous culture, with a willingness to continue learning and growing in this area.
• An acceptable motor vehicle record with a valid commercial diver’s license and have completed a defensive driving course.

• In-depth knowledge of Native American culture.
